Tuan-An Neang--------------------------------------------------------------------------May 14, 2004 English II---------------------------------------------------------------------------------6th Period ???????Dr. Plasczyk is the name of the new assistant principal at our school. A couple of weeks after arriving to McMain, he began to change a lot of things. Some of the things he changed are very hard to get use to. It's hard to adapt to these rules after being so used to our old ones for so long. ???????Lockdown was known to us as "Locking out the intruders." When Dr. Plasczyk came here, he used it to lock out tardy studentss and issue them detentions. I don't think that was the purpose of lockdown and it is not fair to some students that have classes three blocks down the street [at the "used to be" church] or for students with disabilites and cannot make it to class in three minutes. It's not fair to get such punishment for some students because that might be their first tardy and other students get THREE chances of being tardy before receiving the same discipline action. ???????I under stand that wearing large earrings is not safe because someone might pull on it and rip our earlobes, but I do not think it is necessary to have our parents come to the school and get the earrings. He should take into consideration that a lot og parents work everyday to support their family and does not have the time to come to school to deal with such nonsense. Also there are some parents who do not have transportation. Everyone does not know how to drive or have a car. He should think about some of these things. He always stresses to us how, he's getting paid to enforce the rules, but yet he doesn't enforce any other rules. For example, JayJay is wearing white shoes, a red undershirt, and very large earrings, he would take the earrings and does not say anything about her uniform. If he's gonna enforce the rules, he should enforce all rules because after all like he said, "I'm getting paid to enforce the rules!" ???????It has always been a tradition for us students to bring cake and balloons to school for our birthday. It keeps us from missing school as we celebrate such a special event with our friends. It is said to be banned from school because of numerous cake fights. Those people who we're involved in such a thing are the only people who should be punished for their actions, not the whole school! Everyone does not have cake fights, so therefore it is unfair to ban something that has been a traditions for many years. ???????I am not writing this essay to get myself into any trouble, but to state my opinion and my peers' opinion on such matters. I am writing this to tell you how we, as students of McMain, view these things. Now that I have stated my views of such things, maybe next time he could look at these so called "problems" from a different perspective. |
